Linkin Park has launched a new Power The World campaign to give the gift of light, helping those without electricity in Haiti.
Linkin Park is asking for fans to help the less fortunate by donating a solar powered light bulb. The band requested the “gift of light” through their official website. According to Market Watch, the rockers asked supporters of their Music for Relief organization to provide the staple for families in Haiti who don't have the luxury of electricity.
Issuing a statement about donating the solar powered light bulbs, Linkin Park’s front man Mikes Shinoda posted a message on their website to raise awareness for the cause. “We chose Haiti for this project because the country faces severe energy poverty. There are 34 million people in the Western Hemisphere who have no access to modern energy, 8 million of them are in Haiti. By helping Haiti we make a huge impact, so it's a great place to start.”
Using their celebrity status for a good cause, anyone who can donate $10 at PowerTheWorld.org will be able to give a renewable, clean solar light bulb to families who currently live in the dark, making it hard to live a normal light when the sun goes down.
As pointed out by Look To The Stars, Linkin Parks’ main focus is to draw attention to the cause so that fans will spread the word, “encouraging action from the governments, large companies and non-governmental organizations that can make an enormous impact in solving this problem.”
